What Our Students Say
"Support' is the word that best describes my experience as a student within the Mining Engineering program. The faculty are constantly encouraging the students to take initiative when designing their career path. The department goes above and beyond to expose their students to the various aspects of the industry while allowing the freedom to navigate these opportunities -- professional conferences, guest speakers, field trips (I toured mines in Peru!), clubs, and the eclectic curriculum. My own experience as an undergraduate involved every facet in some respect and this allowed my interests in the aggregates industry to form. Honing my interests to a specific part of the mining industry allowed for me to obtain excellent internships, which gave me confidence in my decision to work for Vulcan Materials as an operations management trainee after graduation."
~ Diana Fernandez, Mining Engineering graduate
"The Mining Engineering program at Penn State has given me the tools to succeed in industry and helped me land a job the December before I graduated. I have really enjoyed my time here, especially the experience of working for Peabody Energy at their Twentymile Coal Mine in Colorado and leading the Penn State Mine Rescue Team. Penn State Mining Engineering has given me the opportunity to travel to conferences in Arizona, Nevada, Denver, and Pittsburgh, and countless field trips to active mining operations. I would recommend the mining program to any prospective student who enjoys hands-on learning and the outdoors."
