What I find satisfying about my job today is that the National Weather Service (NWS), where I work, has a mission to protect life and property and enhance the economy. I am extremely motivated by this mission on a daily basis specifically to support the needs of our NWS employees and through regular engagement with the broader weather enterprise that is enabled by the mission of the NWS.
My first job out of college was a geostationary satellite controller for the GOES-9 satellite, with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
My career has exceeded all expectations from the time I graduated. My career path has not been in any way traditional, and I have taken opportunities that appealed to me and my interests, which has led me to be a part of some really interesting work at NOAA.

The best part of being a Penn Stater is the network and instant connection and understanding to other alumni no matter where you are.
On the weekends you can find me watching Penn State football in the fall, camping in the summer, or gardening and going to the playground with my son.
Every year, I can't wait for Thanksgiving. It started back when I first left home for Penn State and it was my first home-cooked meal after being away for those first months of the fall semester. It reminds me of being with family and friends, and I now host the holiday for my own family and friends.
To students, I offer this advice: Don't be afraid to discover what you don't want to do. Take on opportunities that might surprise you.
